Thomas Aquinas identified acedia with “the sorrow of the world.” Weighty stuff! Oxford dictionary defines acedia as “a state of restlessness and inability to work.” Sound familiar to anyone?
Surely, we must be particularly vulnerable to spiritual or mental apathy today, in the unique circumstances of social distancing, self-isolation and quarantine. So how can we proactively fight acedia?
Remember, faith isn’t flying above the storm; it’s simply about weathering the storm. Together, we will weather this storm.
